Biology Lab for Exploring Creation with Biology 2nd Edition

Grade: 9-12 Carol Ashbrook teaches this course with her assistant, Jill Ekberg. Students will explore and learn in a group setting while they discover the concepts taught in the text. Video selections will be used as needed for further understanding. It will be a full year course which consists of lab experiments, demonstrations, and discussion to complement the Apologia Biology text. The lab experiments will include text labs along with substituted and/or supplemental labs to explain concepts in the text. The class covers the lab portion of Biology, and students will need to complete the module work (“On Your Own” questions and Study Guide questions) and tests at home, apart from this lab, to complete a full year of Biology credit. Required: Apologia Exploring Creation with Biology, 2nd Edition, by Dr. Jay L. Wile AND Exploring Creation with Biology 2nd Edition Student Notebook Recommended: Solutions and Test manual that is for at home use.   The materials fee is non-refundable and paid at the June registration date along with the HERC fee=$90

College Prep Spanish 1

According to the U.S census bureau in 2011, 37.6 million U.S. residents spoke Spanish at home, a 117% increase since 1990. Spanish is by far the largest non-English language spoken in the United States making it a growing necessity for language study. This class will teach students to read, write, and speak Spanish and meet basic survival and courtesy requirements. Students will be able to order a meal, make a purchase, follow directions, make small talk, understand present and past tense, gender, number, subject-verb agreement, and memorize Bible verses in Spanish. Different interactive teaching techniques will be used including mandatory projects to enhance learning and enjoyment. Regular homework with a listening component is assigned. Students/Parents correct the homework with the answers provided for immediate feedback and correct practice outside of class. Curriculum and Materials: Spanish 1 for Christian Schools student text AND Spanish 1 Activities Manual www.bjupress.com , a three ring binder with dividers and index cards. Some textbooks are available in the HERC library. The materials fee is non-refundable and a per family fee. Materials include: listening curriculum, advanced Quizlet membership, homework and verb pages, syllabus, testing, and miscellaneous. A detailed grading sheet is emailed at each semester.

College Prep Spanish 2

Grade: 9-12 This course is designed to develop an “intermediate-low to intermediate-mid” level of proficiency as defined by the proficiency guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). A thrust of the text is to teach students to reach out to Spanish speakers with the gospel of Christ. Different teaching techniques will be used including mandatory projects, a field trip, and participation in the end of the semester showcases. Consistent homework is necessary and parents/students need to correct the homework at home for immediate feedback and correct practice outside of class. Curriculum and Materials: Spanish 2 for Christian Schools student text AND Spanish 2 Activities Manual www.bjupress.com, a three ring binder with dividers from Spanish 1. Some textbooks are available in the HERC library. Some parents prefer to have the teacher's manual as well. Some may be available in the HERC library. The materials fee non-refundable and is per family. It includes the listening component, advanced Quizlet membership for vocabulary practice, syllabus, weekly homework, testing, index cards for labeling, etc.. A detailed grading sheet is emailed at the end of each semester.  Minimum Number of Students: 5

Worship Team (Club)

The student led team will lead the HERC community in prayer and praise at the worship rallies held on: Oct. 5th, Nov. 2, Dec 7, Feb. 1, March 1, April 5, and May 3rd. The last Thursday of the month prior to the rally, the worship team will meet for practice. Trained musicians and singers are needed (no lessons are given during this time). Sign up and come to the first meeting to discuss the upcoming worship rallies. All worship team members are encouraged to attend every worship rally whether leading or in the congregation. The worship team may meet for other times during the year as interest and time permits. Come make new friends, use your God-given talents, and bless others as we worship our Lord in prayer and praise together.

  • When: Last Thursday of the month 3:10-4:30 & 1st Thurs worship rally between 3rd&4th period

  • Prerequisite: Prior instrument training and ability to play and/or sing in a group setting.
